Home Security Camera Systems

Types of home security camera systems

Home security camera systems are of two main categories: indoor and outdoor. The two categories of the home security systems are further subcategorized into wired, wireless, battery-powered, AC-powered, floodlight, and doorbell cameras. The critical dissimilarity between indoor and outdoor camera systems is that outdoor cameras are weather-resistant so that they can withstand sun, rain, strong winds, and dust.

The outdoor cameras are covered with a special protective coating on the lens and casing that lasts for stretched years, making them costlier than the indoor camera systems. This article delves into the various indoor and outdoor home security cameras you can purchase to secure your home.

Types of Home Security Camera Systems

1. Wired indoor cameras

These cameras are linked to a universal recording device through an Ethernet or coaxial cable. They are mainly dome cameras often mounted on the ceilings to give a wide-ranging field of view within a home. The wired indoor cameras require professional installation.

2. Wireless indoor cameras

Wireless cameras are also Wi-Fi cameras or Internet Protocol (IP) cameras. They link to a network of Wi-FI and utilize the cloud to store all video recordings. These Wi-Fi cameras are simple and fast to install since they do not require a cable to facilitate the transmission of their video footage. However, they cannot operate without power, meaning you will have to place them close to a power socket so they can remain plugged in at all times.

Indoor cameras are of varying specialties. For instance, baby cameras can record the baby’s room temperature, humidity, and air quality. Others are pet friendly and can dispense treats to your cat or dog.

3. Wired outdoor cameras

These cameras are long and cylindrical and are connected by a wire to a central recording gadget. Wired outdoor cameras need no plugging into an outlet and can be attached to walls or building ceilings. These cameras need professional installation to avoid messing up with the lenses or cameras so that they are better placed to capture all that is required.

4. Wireless outdoor cameras

These cameras share many similarities with the indoor wireless cameras, only that these outdoor cameras are more prominent and weather resilient. They are specially coated to withstand harsh weather conditions like the sun, rain, strong winds, and dust.

Wireless outdoor home security camera systems are attached to walls or erections using appropriate mounting plates plus screws. Some cameras comprise a combined spotlight and siren to scare away invaders. These cameras are ideal with their wide field of view, which goes beyond 130 degrees. They cover a wider area, unlike most cabled bullet cameras.

5. Wire-free outdoor cameras

These cameras are wireless and are powered using batteries, often rechargeable. Hence, they require no plugging into a power outlet. The wire-free outdoor cameras are easy to install and only record when they sense motion. Like the wireless cameras, they are mounted onto walls or structures by professionals and have a large field of view that enables them to capture everything within their field.

Nonetheless, they have one limitation: they are constrained by battery power and, thus, cannot record continuously. However, some wire-free outdoor cameras have the alternative of attaching a solar panel to keep the batteries charged always.

6. Floodlight cameras

The floodlight cameras are wireless and outdoor cameras equipped with giant floodlights that switch on when the camera does. This remarkable aspect of the floodlight cameras enables them to record a more explicit video and perhaps scare away invaders. You can hardwire them to the present lighting wires or can be connected and powered to an outlet.

7. Video doorbells

The video doorbell is an outdoor camera that has gained popularity over time, with many consumers preferring it over the standard doorbell. Immediately it senses motion, or when somebody presses the doorbell, it begins recording. In addition to recording, the video doorbell unlocks two-way audio on your smart device, be it your smartphone, speakers, or TV, so you can check and converse with the person at your front door.

The camera is specially built to allow the person at your front door to hear you but not see you and allow you to see and listen to them. The video doorbell camera also records the person’s interaction if you do not respond to the ring so you can view it later. They require wiring to the present doorbell wiring, which you can do for yourself.

Conclusion

Home security camera systems are of many types, and this article has helped shed light on the various indoor and outdoor camera systems categories. If you consider having one for your home, you can use this article to understand them better before settling on one.
